“What is your favorite artwork?”
Curatorial Rationale
My body of work is about the “city”, but specifically about life within the city surrounding the different things a person will experience. There is a vast amount of things to happen in this lifetime but through the artworks showcased they exemplify what my theme is.
Every artwork chosen included a human in some way and form of expression whether that is in a scene or body parts. They all have an emotion attached to them with how that artwork feels being within the city. Artworks vary in how they evoke emotion like the feeling of anxiousness in Alone?, the hope in Reaching, and or the peacefulness in Sleepy in the City. All of the artworks are different in the sense that they all convey different intentions but they all have the meaning of showcasing different facets of the city life.
My inspirations for my artworks include but are not limited to James Jean, Yoshitaka Amano, and Kazuhiro Hori. Through all of their works, it is prevalent that they all use colors a lot throughout their works. They also are very detail-oriented and the way their lines flow shows much movement. They all are visually appealing with bright hues but also in contrast can use dark colors to enhance their work as well.
For the selection, I have chosen my best artworks. For every piece picked I found all to be showing vibrancy within the colors and even for the grayscale the wood is a bright oak to balance it out. Overall, all the artworks I decided to be in the exhibition are perfect examples of what my art style has to offer: stylistic characters, bright settings, and expressiveness.
I arranged the artwork to have the 2-dimensional forms on the outside of the 3-dimensional artwork. So it surrounds Backbone. I decided to have it be displayed that way because it leads the viewer's eyes to either look all around at all the artworks in a circular clockwise/counterclockwise direction or they will first see the sculpture and expand from there.
In all, I enjoyed making every artwork presented. IB Art was a very fun class in which I have made many connections and memories whilst also being able to improve my art skills. I shall miss my time but there shall be more to happen in this lifetime.

Sleepy in the City
Colored Pencil on Paper
27.9 cm x 35.6 cm
With the Intention of referencing my previous artworks, I thought of it as a sense of closure within what has been created in IB Art in general. There are “easter eggs” and or known as a nod to previous artworks of mine if it catches a person’s knowledge. It is more physically attached to my theme by it being a physical person being in the city.
-

Alone
Gouache on Paper
30 cm x 22 cm
An anxious person walking alone at night in a vast empty street. In her mind someone or something may be following her. She holds onto her green bag to feel safe. She holds onto a feeling of safety in a situation in which she may be harmed, where she feels anxiousness and despair.

Reaching
Acrylic Paint on Wood
33 cm x 20 cm
Every hand in this artwork is reaching out in different directions to convey different wants and needs for each individual, they all have different goals and aspirations for this lifetime they all want to pursue. There is wording on the cracks, being from the song Hands by Flatsound. That song encapsulates my artwork by talking about an artist's hands making and creating.

Backbone
Paper Mache, Acrylic Paint, Colored Pencil
64 cm x 60 cm x 76 cm
I wanted to display the majority and minority in corporations. There is the full body which is representative of the powerful bigger minority and when turning around the body you see one of the more important parts: the spine, the inner workings of the person as well as little people climbing up the body being the majority- climbing up the ranks and being the backbone of the operation.
