“We are not makers of history. We are made by history” - Martin Luther King Jr.

Carter G. Woodson might have had the idea that led to “Black History Month” in 1925, but it is up to the community to keep the tradition of celebrating African-American culture.

Celebrating Black History Month through Mira Loma’s “Block Party” and other Black History Month events allows the community of Mira Loma to understand the history of those who identify as “Black” while participating in celebrating the shared history of common goals. It is through this community celebration of culture (sharing stories, music, art, food and more) that our community understands the importance of each and every story!

Remembering the Past

One of the most important elements of culture is history. As Mira Loma Celebrates Black Culture, our Matadors have curated archives of pervious Block Party Celebrations. Each year has different activities and different focuses. We hope you find something to celebrate!

Personal Video Testimonials

Listen to the students as they discuss the importance of this celebration on our campus and why it matters to them!

The past is a ghost, the future a dream. All we ever have is now.

Black History Month is about sharing and celebrating the stories of countless men and women who made a difference in our world. Some achievements are noted more than others, but all of their stories reveal how they changed the world...and how we can, too.

Celebrate Black History Month through the students of Mira Loma High School!
