“What is your favorite artwork?”
Curatorial Rationale
Storytelling has been in several parts of our lives. It has either brought joy, fear or even sadness at times. Its always been an inspiration ever since I was little, that is why that is the whole theme of each of my artworks. At first I wasn’t too sure and set on the idea of my artworks, originally it was all about solitude/being alone, it made sense in the first couple of artworks but then I started to realize that it started to not fit the artworks. That's when I started connecting the dots together and storytelling made the most sense . Each of the artworks that I’ve chosen tell a small part of a big story, a story of someone who lost everything in a blink of an eye and struggles on how it is that he should move forward.
What these artworks represent is how someone loses themselves in the process of trying to get better. I believe that several if not everyone has experienced the feeling of loss in one way or another and trying to forget or move on from it is rather difficult. Personally I have experienced this feeling several times and believe that it influenced most of my artworks, the ones that were chosen definitely were influenced by my experiences, I put a lot of thought and emotion into my pieces, the pieces may bring discomfort to certain audiences but the chosen artworks aren’t meant to bring any joy at all. These artworks are dark and dreadful.
The way that my artworks are exhibited are strongly connected to the theme, they are all in order from the start of the story to the end. In each of the artworks the character starts losing his mind more and more, which tends to happen when you’ve lost everything and everyone that you love. These artworks contain signs of grief, loss and overall just insanity, this isn’t just a story but a relatable feeling that we’ve all experienced at some point of our lives .

“Am I dreaming”
Cardboard with paper, acrylic paint with oil pastel mixed media
This is a continuation of my previous artworks where the main character(Tadeo) got bit and is now experiencing hallucinations. He doesn’t know if anything that he is seeing is real or not which makes him panic in response. Hands are covering his face and body and roses are bleeding, what is going on, how did I even get here? He begins questioning reality and is confused about everything. Will he be able to survive much longer?
