“What is your favorite artwork?”
Curatorial Rationale
As part of a curatorial Rationale, I will be delving into the theme of emotion, with my work being a representation of how I feel and what others feel around me. My pieces carry a deep emotional significance and employ various artistic elements and principles to emphasize their message. Every artwork chosen features something innately feminine since I feel the strongest form of connection with women, from being raised by them and being a girl myself. I had a couple of inspirational artists throughout my artistic journey such as the artist Mijanou, I found inspiration in the brown maxi skirt showcased in her 2023 fall collection. The intricate pattern and repetition caught my eye, and I endeavored to incorporate similar elements in my creations. As well as the revered artist Shin-ichi Sakamoto which I found great inspiration in the series Innocent Rouge, which was serialized from January 2013 to April 2015. The stunningly rich and detailed artwork, depicting a dramatized version of the events of the French Revolution, earned widespread acclaim and numerous award nominations in Japan. I was eager to challenge myself to recreate the same level of detail that Sakamoto imbued in his work. Lastly one of my all-time favorite artists Egon Schiele, an Austrian artist born in 1890, my inspirational artwork from him was "Two Girls, Lying Entwined," from 1915. The pose and the distinct, well-defined features of the face and body captivated me. I aimed to capture the same essence of female sensuality in my creations that Schiele conveyed in his work. "I arranged my artwork in a way that highlights my largest piece my work, “Delicate” which is currently displayed on a mannequin. The black and white graphite pieces are placed at the top since they are the most detailed and eye-catching, as well as sharing the same dimensions. The colorful pieces that I am not particularly fond of are placed next to or below the black and white pieces to draw more attention towards the dress."
I will miss this class since I've been in the art space for 3 years with Mrs.Char, it was fun and I've made lifelong friends and learned a lot but I’m ready to graduate already.

Mourning, 2022
Graphite, Watercolor
30 cm by 45 cm
Despite having only two weeks to work, I aimed to incorporate a unique and semi-realistic style into my art that emphasizes the principles of texture and value. To achieve this, I utilized jagged vertical brush strokes and paint splatter to create an incoherent yet captivating background and texture surrounding my figures.

Disgust, 2023
Graphite
22 cm by 15 cm
Given three weeks, I aimed to enhance my graphite skills through the application of cross-hatching, stippling, smudging, and other techniques. This piece centers on the principles of emphasis and movement. My goal is to draw attention to the center of the face, while utilizing various areas of interest to guide the viewer's eye throughout the project.

I Like You, 2024
Graphite, Charcoal
22 cm x 15 cm
My artistic inspiration came from Shin-ichi Sakamoto, a renowned mangaka acclaimed for his semi-realistic and intricately detailed works. My intent was to create an artwork that evokes a growing sense of unease, achieved through the deliberate use of cross-hatching and chicken scratching to convey chaos, and a monochromatic palette for added dread.

Misguidance, 2023
Digital (Procreate)
My intention was to adopt a bird's eye view perspective and to employ a tertiary color palette, specifically orange, green, and purple, in my artwork. My primary objective was to develop my proficiency in rendering shadows and highlights, I chose to convey an emotion teenagers usually of feeling lost without identity and resorting to unhealthy coping mechanisms.

Delicate, 2023
Textiles
46 inch tall, 24 inch waist, 37 inch inseam
I devoted a month to crafting this piece, employing various crochet techniques such as consistent single and double stitches. Drawing inspiration from my aunt's expertise as a seamstress, I layered two fabrics, lace and satin, to create a floor-length skirt with an elastic band that accentuates the waistline. To enhance its overall appeal, I crafted a corset to enhance the garment's silhouette.
