Twilight Zone
Watercolor on watercolor paper
37.6 cm x 19.6 cm
My intention for this tryptic was to depict the daily life of a girl with a twist. From waking up, eating breakfast, and drawing, she’s being watched by a shadow. This relates to my theme of “being watched”. The pastel of the scenes are supposed to contrast the shadows. Additionally, to add to the atmosphere, the girl’s eyes are never shown while an eye is integrated into a different part of each painting.

Your deadly poison
Digital Art (Procreate)
3000px x 3000px
This artwork is meant to depict the fear of poison in both a metaphorical and physical sense. The apple is a manifestation of literal poison which alludes to the story of Snow White while the figure’s poses are meant to symbolize a toxic relationship.

Lord give me one more chance
Mixed Media; spray paint, acrylic paint on wire, tape, cardboard air-dry clay
22.9 cm x 29.0 cm x 12.4 cm
This artwork represents the fear of religion and God. I think that the scariest concept regarding a religion would be biblically accurate angels. While angels are usually depicted a beautiful creatures in paintings, the idea of a 6-winged being with eyes is shocking and much more frightening.

Borderline
Mixed Media; acrylic paint, hot glue, marker on cardboard and paper
19.6 cm x 19.3 cm x 40.8 cm
This artwork represents the fear of heights. Usually, when you have an aversion of heights it’s the idea of falling off and potentially dying that scares you. In this piece, a figure is falling down a clock tower representing how their time is up and the heights will lead to their death.

Please let me go...
Digital art; Procreate
2550px x 3300px
The piece depicts some kind of zombie apocalypse where one girl is holding a dying girl in her arms. This represents the fear of loss. It is only exemplified by the fact that if the living girl were to stay, she might turn too. She is so afraid of loss that she would rather die than live in a world without the other girl.

I believe it is time to go
Acrylic paint on glass
30.5 cm x 91.4 cm
This artwork represents that subtle fear of death from deep inside. It’s like the feeling of impending doom and inevitability. To show this, the main subject is a tense girl who is being held by a dead version of herself. One of my inspirations for both the morbidness and the art style is Junji Ito and his work Tomie. -

Lifeless Eyes
Mixed Media; pipe cleaner, hot glue, digital art (Procreate) on cardboard
30 cm x 22.8 cm
For my artwork, the fear I wanted to convey was arachnophobia or the fear of spiders. This is represented by how the girl is trying to claw her eyes out as spiders crawl out of them. It reallys shows what makes spiders so unsettling—the way they bunch together, their long legs, and the idea that they may end up crawling all over you.

all alone, open-eyed
Mixed media; air dry clay, acrylic paint, foil, newspaper, press-on nails, and hot glue on canvas
25.4 x 20.3 cm
With this work, my focus was the fear of the dark/dark places known as scotophobia. Being afraid of the dark can be associated with the feeling of being watched and fearing the unknown within the shadows. In this artwork, the dark has eyes and tendrils preventing a hand from being able to reach the light.

Don’t Say You love Me
Mixed Media; spray paint, acrylic paint, embroidery thread, watercolor, digital art (Procreate) on cardboard, , canvas fabric, newspaper,
30 cm x 22.8 cm
For this piece, I wanted to convey the fear of love or “philophobia.” I chose to represent it using “hanahaki” or a fictional disease where one is dying because of unrequited love. The most prominent symptom is vomiting flowers. I wanted to grasp the desperation and avoidance that comes with philophobia. This girl is afraid to fall in love because of repercussions like her feelings not being mutual.

Rag Doll
Acrylic paint on ceramic
8.1 cm x 7.5 cm x 15.3 cm
For this lantern, I wanted to make something based off trypophobia or the fear of holes especially when they are clumped together. To achieve this, I made sure my entire lantern was covered entirely in different sizes of holes. I wanted to paint it in a way that was unsettling, so I made it look like decaying skin with blood oozing out. To me, it looks like the skin of a zombie, and this idea adds to the horror effect of this lantern. I also made sure to add dimension to the blood by shading it.
